ASB

Lakeside ASB under the direction of Mr. Brooks is made up creative, reliable and energetic 7th and 8th grade student leaders tasked with the responsibility of creating a positive school culture. ASB’s ultimate goal is to insure that all students have a good time at school. This is accomplished through all the student activities and events at Lakeside. These include, Fierce Fridays, Fun Fridays, crazy lunchtime games, Student of the Month Ceremonies, school dances, fun fundraiser incentives, Hero Incentives, 8th Grade Activities and so much more.

GSA Club

Meetings: GSA will meet Wednesdays, afterschool from 12:30-1:15 (lunch during the meeting)

Purpose: A Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-run club which provides a safe place for students to meet, support each other, talk about issues related to gender orientation, and work to end homophobia. Many GSAs function as a support group and provide safety and confidentiality to students who are struggling with their identity as gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or questioning. In addition to support, some GSAs work on educating themselves and the broader school community about gender orientation and gender identity issues. GSAs are a great way to build community at a school and lessen the isolation that LGBTQ students might otherwise experience. (from the GSA website www.gsanetwork.org)

Middle school GSA’s are NOT dating clubs but a place where kids can go to feel safe while just being themselves. It is a club that is open to everyone, gay AND straight, and is designed so that ALL kids can have a good time. Typical activities at a middle school GSA include game days, crafts, movie days, and being silly. Kids will find accepting friends and develop a support network that can help them in a straight society.

Video Game Club

Video game club is an opportunity for students to socialize and have fun together based on their hobby of playing video games. Students will have an opportunity to play multi-player games against each other, play single player games, and spend time discussing gaming strategies and preferences. Games will be approved on an individual basis. Rated "M" games will not typically be approved, although one notable exception is the original "Mortal Kombat" for Sega Genesis. There are several fun games to choose from, including: “Simpsons: Hit and Run”, “Monkeyball”, “Super Mario World” and several others. Most of the games are classics, but are well known games that most students will recognize. There are some more modern games as well but all of the gaming systems and games have been donated, so there are no “newly released” games of course. If there are any games, accessories, or systems that a student can bring in as a donation it would be greatly appreciated, although definitely not required or expected. Students are welcome to bring their own handheld gaming systems (Gameboys, Nintendo 3DS, etc.) AT THEIR OWN RISK. The teacher/school will not be held liable.

Students who use foul language or treat the equipment inappropriately will be removed from their game. Any student may join the club, but “F” grades are not allowed. If a student has an “F” they may join the club but they will be put on probation. If the grade is not improved within 2 weeks they will be removed from the club so that students with NO “F’s” may have the opportunity to participate. Students in the club will be completing a grade check form once a month. Students who turn in a grade form with “D’s” will need to complete a grade check form weekly until all “D’s” are improved. Students with “F’s” on a grade check will also need to turn in a grade check weekly but will be dropped if the grade is not improved within two weeks.
